Learning Objectives
- Demonstrate the major bones of the skull, including the frontal, parietal, temporal, occipital, maxilla, mandible, nasal, sphenoid, zygoma and ethmoid bones
- Describe and identify the main muscles of the face and summarise their nerve supply and the consequences of injury to their nerve supply
- Briefly describe the anatomy of the sensory and motor components of the trigeminal nerve
- Describe and locate the main muscles of the anterolateral neck and summarise their action and nerve supply
- Demonstrate the boundaries of the anterior and posterior triangles of the neck defined by the sternum, clavicle, mandible, mastoid process, trapezius, sternocleidomastoid and the midline
- In the anterior triangle, demonstrate the position of the common, internal and external carotid arteries, the internal jugular vein and the Vagus nerve
- In the posterior triangle, demonstrate the position of the spinal accessory nerve, the phrenic nerve, the external jugular vein and subclavian vessels in relation to penetrating neck trauma
- Palpate the common arterial pulses of the head and neck: temporal, carotid and facial
